Physical Healing in the Bible
Many people believe that the Bible is only about spiritual matters, that it only offers healing for the soul. But the truth is far greater than that. Because God is Spirit, everything begins in the unseen realm before it shows up in the natural.
That is why when Jesus walked on the earth, He did not only preach about salvation; He demonstrated it through mighty works. He healed the blind, cleansed the lepers, raised the dead, and restored broken bodies. His ministry proved that the Word of God is not just for the heart, but also for the body, the mind, and every part of our lives.
When God releases healing in the spirit, it manifests in the physical. When He declares freedom in the unseen, it shows up in the visible. The Bible is the bridge between heaven and earth, between the spiritual and the natural. And just as Jesus touched lives with miracles, signs, and wonders, His Word is still alive today, bringing wholeness, restoration, and healing in every area of our lives.

Prayers for Physical Healing in the Bible

Examples of Physical Healing in the Bible
The Blind Man at Jericho (Mark 10:46–52)
Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, cried out to Jesus for mercy. Even though people tried to silence him, Jesus stopped, called him, and restored his sight. This shows that faith and persistence in calling on God can bring physical healing.
The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25–34)
A woman who had been bleeding for 12 years touched the hem of Jesus’ garment in faith. Instantly, her bleeding stopped, and she was healed. This shows that sometimes just one act of faith can bring complete healing.
The Paralytic Man (Mark 2:1–12)
Four friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus, even breaking the roof to lower him down. Jesus forgave his sins and healed his body, so he got up and walked. This reveals that healing can come through faith and the support of others who intercede for us.
The Ten Lepers (Luke 17:11–19)
Jesus healed ten men with leprosy, a disease that made them outcasts. As they went, they were cleansed. One returned to give thanks, and Jesus declared him completely whole. Gratitude has power to seal and multiply our healing.
The Man at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1–9)
A man had been sick for 38 years, waiting by the pool for healing. Jesus told him, “Rise, take up your bed, and walk.” Immediately, the man was healed. This shows that when God’s Word comes, no matter how long the condition has lasted, healing can happen instantly.
The Raising of Jairus’ Daughter (Mark 5:35–43)
A synagogue leader’s daughter had died, but Jesus went to the house, took her by the hand, and said, “Little girl, arise.” Immediately, she came back to life. This shows that Jesus has power even over death itself.
Healing of Peter’s Mother-in-law (Matthew 8:14–15)
Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with a fever. Jesus touched her hand, and the fever left her. She immediately got up and served them. This shows God cares even about “ordinary” sicknesses, not just the big ones.
Spiritual and Physical Healing in the Bible
When people think of healing in the Bible, many immediately picture miracles where the sick were made well, though that’s true, but it goes deeper. The Bible talks about two types of healing, spiritual healing and physical healing.
Spiritual healing happens in the soul and spirit. It is when God forgives sin, restores a broken relationship with Him, and gives peace, joy, and freedom on the inside. For example, when David prayed in Psalm 51, he wasn’t asking God to heal his body but to cleanse his heart and restore his spirit. Jesus also healed people spiritually by forgiving their sins before touching their physical condition.
On the other hand, physical healing is when God restores health to the body. This is the kind of healing we see when Jesus opened blind eyes, cleansed lepers, made the lame walk, and even raised the dead. These were real, visible, physical miracles that showed God’s power over sickness and disease.
What’s amazing is that the Bible shows us the two are often connected. Many times, Jesus first dealt with the spiritual condition (forgiveness, faith, repentance) and then the physical healing followed. Why? Because God is Spirit, and what happens in the unseen realm often manifests in the physical.
So, to put it simply, spiritual healing fixes what is broken inside the heart, the soul, and our relationship with God, while Physical healing restores the body and brings relief from sickness, pain, or disease.
Both are part of God’s love for us. He doesn’t just care about our souls going to heaven; He also cares about our bodies and our health here on earth.
Examples of Spiritual and Physical Healing in the Bible
1. The Paralytic Man in (Mark 2:1–12) When his friends brought him to Jesus, the first thing Jesus said was, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” This was spiritual healing, that is restoring his soul before anything else.
After that, Jesus told him, “Get up, take your mat, and walk.” Instantly, the man was physically healed and walked home in front of everyone.
2. The Woman with the Issue of Blood in (Mark 5:25–34) Jesus told her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” That “peace” wasn’t just about her body, it was a spiritual restoration of her identity and dignity.
Immediately, her physical healing took place which made her bleeding that lasted 12 years to stop.
3. The Ten Lepers in (Luke 17:11–19) As they went, their physical healing took place, they were healed of leprosy, their skin was restored.
But only one returned to give thanks, and Jesus told him, “Your faith has made you whole.” This went beyond his body, his soul and spirit were also restored.
